'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Spoilers and Cast Updates: Sophie Turner Drops the Trademark Stark Red Hair: Ill Boding for Sansa Next Season?
"Game of Thrones" fans went up in a frenzy as Sophie Turner, who plays fierce Sansa Stark in the HBO series (and Marvel mutant Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise), dropped the trademark Stark red hair for platinum Targaryen blonde locks.
The 29-year-old GoT main lady debuted her new look on Instagram Friday, with the caption, "So...I did a thing," which drew mixed reactions from fans, who recently took a severe blow this week after finding out that the beloved series is slated to end after its eighth season.
In case fans were wondering, Turner is naturally blonde.
Some went on to compliment the blonde-haired beauty, but the move immediately elicited conspiracy theories on the future of Sansa Stark in the series.
Some fans jokingly commented that Sansa may be the predicted Targaryen after all, and not Jon Snow, referring to the most popular fan theory in the series.
Meanwhile, other fans thought of much darker possibilities for her character.
"@accioalaska I think its because she will die in season 7 and that the flowers she got," commented one Instagram user.
The theory is not actually far off-base, as Turner had actually expressed hopes that her character will eventually get the axe on the show--and through a really big death scene, no less.
In an interview with Just Jared, Turner had expressed hopes that Sansa concocts some serious revenge plans against everyone who wronged her and her family. After which, she said, she's good for the series, and will have been ready to get offed "in a good episode, like poisoning...just a long, slow death."
While she wants Sansa to die at some point, Season 6 saw to a much dynamic Sansa, who has learned how to take charge and be more assertive, and learning how to stand up to her half-brother (actually her cousin), Jon Snow, who is played by Kit Harrington.
In an separate interview with Variety, Turner also discussed Sansa's frustrations at being in constant battle with men who do not even consider her to be a real contender and player for the Iron Throne. While she previously shared that Sansa may not be interested in taking the throne, she is also unwilling to yield to Jon Snow, feeling that he isn't capable of running the show just yet.
Either way, however, the star is expected to dye her hair back as soon as production for Season 7 starts.
