'Game of Thrones' Season 8 News: Emilia Clarke Debuts Lighter Hair for Show's Final Season

Emilia Clarke has officially gone blonde for the final season of "Game of Thrones."

Clarke recently showed off her dramatic transformation on Instagram, debuting her new hair color in a gorgeous selfie that left her fans completely surprised. The 30-year-old has shown full commitment to her "Game of Thrones" character Daenerys Targaryen after dyeing her brunette hair platinum blonde for the first time.

In the image, the actress sported a simple red jumper while smiling to the camera. After showcasing her all-new look, the fan-favorite star admitted she feels closer than ever to her role now that they have the same color of locks.

"The experiment continues," she wrote in the caption. "My IQ has stayed around average and my need to be near fire breathing creatures and uncomfortable seats made of iron has trebled."

While many are happy with Clarke's updated hairdo, some fans speculate that her changed hair color has something to do with the show. Clarke's natural hair length is much shorter than Daenerys' — leading many to suspect the Mother of Dragons will also have a different look next season. After all, she already has shorter hair in the books. When Drogon rescued her from the Dragon pit and doused her in fire, she managed to live but lost her hair in the process.

Reports note that it's also possible Daenerys will go evil in season 8. A longstanding theory about her character claims she will imitate the Mad King Aerys and become the last Targaryen to rule over Westeros. This is not far from happening because like Aerys, she also burned many people during the show's seventh season.

The eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" is expected to premiere next year on HBO. An exact release date is yet to be announced.
