'Gears of War 4' Game News: Upcoming Game to Usher in Foundation for New Trilogy

The "Gears of War 4" is having its Beta next month, and the news about the game having new foundations for a new trilogy got the fans look forward to it even further.

In an interview, with Game Informer, "Gears of War 4's" creative director Chuck Osieja and studio head Rod Fergusson revealed that, while the newest "Gears of War" will pick up from where "Gears of War 3" ends, it will also pave the path for a new story and adventures for its heroes.

"For us it was 'OK, moving forward, how do we setup a foundation for not just a trilogy, but for a much larger universe," said Osieja.

Fergusson disclosed that he and the rest of "Gears of War 4" team discussed several possibilities for the newest game, including alternate planets but the desire to stay on Sera prevailed because of the opportunity for the game's heroes to revisit old places and make use of specific weapons that earlier "Gears of War" games have set.

"That's when we decided 'let's go all the way forward, let's put enough time in and have a new generation of heroes and create JD Fenix, Marcus's son," he said.

Fergusson also hinted as to what "Gears of War" fans can expect once they start playing the game by revealing that JD and his friends have gone AWOL and operate outside the military protocol as they break away from the oppressive rule of the new COG.

Despite "Gears of War 4" breaking ground for a new trilogy, though, Fergusson admitted that he never drew a bead on making it "the greatest story ever told" sort of thing as the heroes of the game only interact with the world when they shoot and kill.

"… Probably 'The Last of Us' is the closest we've come to accomplishing that," said Ferguson as he pointed out that "Gears of War 4" will not have a heartfelt story.

"Gears of War 4" will be launched in fall 2016.
