George Foreman Talks About 'God in My Corner' on 'Today Show'

Famed boxer and Christian George Foreman appeared Moday on The Today Show to speak about his new book.

God in My Corner: A Spiritual Memoir, to be released on May 22 by Thomas Nelson, Inc., tells the biography of the born-again boxer and how God has played a critical role over his years.

The book hopes to encourage fellow Christians to move onto excellence in their lives and to overcome all adversity.

"[The book] tells not only the life story of George, but more importantly, it tells how God has been behind the scenes of every part of his life," reads an explanation from the publisher, "from a boyhood marked by scrapes with the law, to Olympian gold medalist, to two-time heavyweight champion of the world, to father of a family of ten, to ordained minister, to founder of The George Foreman Youth Community Center, to successful businessman."

Besides the Today Show, Foreman is also planning appearances on a list of other programs. On Monday, he will speak on Hannity & Colmes and the Sean Hannity Show. He will then chat on Janet Parshall's America and Fox Across America radio programs on May 22 and 23, respectively.

Although the book is autobiographical, it reads more like a testimonial to encourage readers' spirituality. Through his own life, the author hopes to exhibit to his audience how to live a Godly existence.

"God has been there every step of the way," adds the book description, "building George into a man of faith who is seen worldwide as a positive role model and a man whose face is always beaming with the joy that only God can give. Now George shares those life lessons with the world."

The book does include descriptions from Foreman's youth as well as excerpts from several of his fights, highlighting his born-again experience after being defeated by fellow boxer Jimmy Young, which caused a near-death experience through which God called him to change his life and ways.

The former athlete also has a "tips from George's corner" at the end of each chapter to aid readers in applying God into their daily living as well as an alter call at the end of the book where Foreman challenges everyone to meet him in heaven someday.

Foreman, nicknamed "Boy George," has received several accolades over his diverse career. He earned a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games, was an American two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame in January 2003, and garnered huge business success through projects such as his George Foreman Grill.

He is also an ordained minister at The Church of Lord Jesus Christ in Houston.
