More than 30 students and faculty from George Fox University will join Campus Crusade for Christ during their spring break in the U.S. Gulf States to help Hurricane Katrina survivors.
During the last week of March, two teams will join the campus ministry to participate in relief efforts in New Orleans, La., and Pass Christian, Miss. So far, Campus Crusade for Christ has drawn thousands of students from campuses across the nation to spend their respective spring breaks helping Gulf Coast communities recover and rebuild. The ministry had originally planned on 8,000 participants but drew another 2,000 student registrants to the Katrina-devastated lands.
In New Orleans, one of the George Fox teams will clear debris from homes damaged in the hurricane. Campus Crusade hopes to clear 5,000 homes by the end of June with the typical rate of clearing a home for a team of seven to eight people being two days.
Meanwhile, another team will work alongside contractors in Pass Christian in an effort to rebuild damaged homes. CCC has already cleared 500 homes of debris and hopes to rebuild at least 200 of these homes.
George Fox University sponsored a team of five students and staff in September, who volunteered in Louisiana with Campus Crusade. The crew cleaned buildings to create living space for evacuees and cleared debris.
The spring serve trips are part of George Foxs serve trip program, which annually sends out nearly 200 student volunteers during Christmas break, spring break, and May term.
