Parents of George Fox University students will gather in five states and 14 locations for the universitys seventh annual Parents Day of Prayer on Saturday.
George Fox parents will meet on the Newberg, Ore., campus to worship and for a self-guided prayer walk around the campus to pray for students, administration, and alumni.
In addition to the prayer on campus, parents will meet in private homes in the states of Oregon, Washington, Utah, California, and Alaska to pray. At these off-campus sites, parents will use a DVD virtual tour of the university campus as a prayer guide.
Sheri Philips, executive director of university relations, says the idea for the day of prayer originated seven years ago at a meeting of the Parents Council. Several members saw a need to support teachers, students, staff, and families through prayer.
The Parents Council has invited faculty, administration, and staff to submit prayer requests as well as thanksgiving and praise.
The list of prayer requests will be distributed to the parents who will meet on campus and faxed or e-mailed to the off-campus sites.
The Parents Council is made up of about 30 parents who act as advisors to the university administration and assist with some events.
