Winds of Winter Release Date Rumors: George R.R. Martin Fuels Speculation on New Book
Fans of the Seven Kingdoms saga may have reason to rejoice after news broke out that the sixth book in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series may see a 2015 release after all.
George R. R. Martin sparked off conjecture that "Winds of Winter," the sixth book in his bestselling epic fantasy novels, "A Song of Ice and Fire," may become available to the public this year based on his reaction to a statement released by his publisher.
HarperCollins publisher, Jane Johnson, earlier told The Guardian in an interview that she had no information on the much-awaited novel's delivery, noting Martin's complex books required much concentration on the part of the author. This statement led fans to conclude the sixth book was unlikely to get a 2015 release.
In reaction, Martin took to his LiveJournal blog with his thoughts over this misinterpretation.
"I certainly hope that THE WINDS OF WINTER is not on the schedule of ANY of my publishers. I have spent years trying to persuade them all not to schedule my books until they are completed and delivered." Martin wrote on "Not A Blog," where he regularly interacts with his readers.
"Scheduling, and then having to reschedule and postpone, just pisses people off. I'd rather not schedule at all until the date is real and certain. This flies against standard publishing practice, however, so it's a battle that I do not always win," he continued.
According to reader reaction, the speculation that a 2015 release based on Martin's statement is currently held to be true.
Fueling further excitement, a report has surfaced that Martin's U.K. publisher posted Twitter images of one of the author's letters revealing some of the events and major plot twists for the series, including a disclosure that he intends only five of the major characters of "A Song of Fire and Ice" to survive: Arya Stark, Bran Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, and Tyrion Lannister.
However, Martin may have already scrapped this plan with the sixth of the series already on the horizon.
The Twitter images of that earlier master plot based on what was originally planned to be a trilogy have since been deleted.
