George Zimmerman New Bond Hearing Set, Facing Same Angry Judge
George Zimmerman's new bond hearing has been scheduled for June 29, just one week after a Florida judge revoked his $150,000 bond for lying before the court.
Zimmerman's attorneys intend to file a motion requesting bail "well in advance of the hearing," according to their website.
Seminole County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Lester Jr., who was visibly upset, ordered Zimmerman to surrender to authorities within 48 hours on Friday after it was discovered that he misrepresented his finances and lied about his possession of a second passport during his initial bond hearing, according to CNN.
Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, reportedly acquired it just two weeks after the shooting that killed the unarmed teen.
The 28-year-old will face the same judge during his June 29 bond hearing to explain what lead attorney Mark O'Mara described as one big misunderstanding.
During Zimmerman's first bond hearing in April, he and his wife Shellie informed the courts that they were both financially indigent despite having at least $135,000 in donated funds.
Prosecutors came to the explosive findings after listening to recorded jail house phone calls which reportedly expose the couple speaking in code to conceal their finances, which O'Mara insists Zimmerman will explain on June 29.
"It's not again like they were trying to hide the money or leave with the money. They just had it ... and felt like they needed to secure themselves," O'Mara told ABC.
Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the Martin family, said that Zimmerman's dishonesty was a reflection of his credibility. which is crucial to the case.
"We fully expect that the special prosecutor will make George Zimmerman's credibility be front and center in this entire case," Crump said. "And whatever dishonesty that comes forth by George Zimmerman that they can prove, you can best believe it will become the issue of this case," said Crump.
