Geraldo Rivera Apology in Trayvon Martin Case Made on Twitter
Geraldo Rivera's job was under threat after the Fox news host made comments last week about Trayvon Martin's wardrobe contributing to his murder. Rivera came forward Tuesday, to apologize for his remarks.
Last week Rivera commented that Martin's attire on the day he was attacked, had contributed to the way that George Zimmerman responded to him.
"When you see a black or Latino youngster, particularly on the street, you walk to the other side of the street. You try to avoid that confrontation," Rivera said.

"Trayvon Martin, you know God bless him, he was an innocent kid, a wonderful kid, a box of Skittles in his hands. He didn't deserve to die. But I'll bet you money, if he didn't have that hoodie on, that nutty neighborhood watch guy wouldn't have responded in that violent and aggressive way," he continued on Fox News.
The comments offended many who later formed a petition that insisted Rivera apologize for his remarks. Rivera responded to the petition by offering an apology on Twitter.
"I deeply apologize for any hurt I caused-that is not my goal or intent," he wrote.
Rivera's comments came across harsher on Thursday, when he continued his line of though on the show, on his Twitter account. "His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman," Rivera tweeted.
Despite the controversial remarks, Rivera suggested that some moms had actually offered him their support.
"In the avalanche of criticism how interesting that most minority moms back me because they want their sons to live long and prosper," he wrote.
Trayvon Martin was killed on February 26th in Sanford, Florida. George Zimmerman, 28, a neighborhood watch volunteer was found standing over Martin's body, armed with a handgun. Martin, 17, was not armed.
The case of Trayvon Martin became national news after 911 tapes were released and it was discovered that Zimmerman had not been arrested following the attack. The tapes prompted many to charge that Zimmerman was racist.
