Chick-fil-A has been grilled and deep-fried in the media since CEO Dan Cathy admitted the company's support for the traditional family in 2012. However, business actually experienced an uptick in the heat of the controversy, so a phoenix rising from the ashes metaphor doesn't really work here. Rather, despite remaining closed on Sundays, the Atlanta-based company recently surpassed KFC as the nation's best-selling chicken chain.
Their success has also come without a solid presence in urban markets like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. However, as USA Today reports, Chick-fil-A is looking to change their absence in America's largest cities. This year will see the famously Christian company expanding into those markets with a focus on New York.
