'Ghosbusters' Movie Reboot News: Original 'Ghostbusters' to be Re-released before Reboot's Showing Date
In order to herald the arrival of the "Ghostbusters" reboot, which features Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, the original film version of the film that debuted in 1984 will be re-released in more than 750 American theaters just in time for its 34th anniversary.
Fathom Events will be spearheading the re-release which will kick off on June 8. Beginning the said date, BBQ Films is also throwing a three-night extravaganza in Brooklyn. There, a giant warehouse will be converted into Ghostbusters headquarters where fans will have the chance to wear proton packs, drink an ecto-beverage, and witness the original "Ghostbusters" film, which was top billed by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.
The event will have an encore on June 12.
Meanwhile, ScreenCrush reports that the trailer of the "Ghostbusters" remake is the most disliked movie trailer on YouTube of all time. According to the entertainment website, the trailer has garnered 507,610 dislikes on YouTube as of this writing. When compared to other movie trailers featured on YouTube, such as that by "Fantastic Four" (20,175 dislikes) and "The Ridiculous 6" (5,803 dislikes), the number of dislikes that the trailer of the said reboot got is undeniably alarming for everybody involved in the soon-to-be released movie.
However, ScreenCrush suggests that this number of dislikes is not really organic as there is a group of people who are fixated on their hate on the reboot and is determined to bring the movie down even before it hits the theaters.
One of the most obvious changes in "Ghostbusters" reboot is that it replaced the all original-male of ghost-fighting squad with an all-female ensemble in the lead. With the reboot getting heavily bashed for its move to replace the male leads with women, it seems that the reboot needs to re-introduce the original to today's generation first in order to bait them in to see "Ghostbusters" 2016, which opens on July 15 this year.
