'Ghost in the Shell' Release Date, News: Who Is Meera?
Japan is rich not only in culture and wealth, but also in terms of imagination brought to life in animated series. Arguably, one of the most prominent among them all is "Ghost in the Shell," which is getting a live adaptation by the end of the month. Paramount Pictures is now releasing several TV spots to amass interest for the film.
The first clip named "Fog of Memory" depicts a woman telling Major (Scarlett Johansson) that she met a tragic accident in which only her brain survived. Meanwhile, someone reveals that she was not saved; rather her life was stolen from her.
In the second TV spot dubbed "Control," Major is made to hunt down terrorists as payment for being saved. Later on, when she discovers that everything they told her was a lie, her creators order her extermination.

The third commercial titled "Past" further reveals the extent of how Major's alleged saviors are now hunting her down. She does not take it lying down and instead vows to destroy them.
All three presents things that fans already know from the previous trailers; however, the fourth spot, "Wake Up," provides a new twist in the story. While Major awakes and her consciousness is now within a cyborg vessel, she is referred to as "Meera." Who is Meera?
It can be recalled that Johansson's character is more often known as Major, while her full name is Motoko Kusanagi as is in the original Japanese animated classic. The last commercial reveals she is called a different name, which is rather confusing for some. Are they changing this part of the story aside from the original plot?
Fans quickly gave their speculations on the name. The most accepted thought is that Meera may be a new identity given to her after Major wakes up as a cyborg. This further explains the plot where she's been lied to, and that includes who she was prior to her transformation.
Just to be certain, fans will have to wait and see what happens in the movie. "Ghost in the Shell" arrives in cinemas on March 31, 2017.
