'Ghostbusters 3' Release Date, Latest News: Director and Producer Ivan Reitman Confirms Sequel is Underway
After almost 30 years, the supernatural comedy film "Ghostbusters" still remains one of the most favorite films across languages and ages and is now rumored to once again hit the theaters for its third full-length feature sequel, "Ghostbusters 3."
It has been previously reported that Columbia Pictures was rooting to make the next installment. Delays and other issues, including Bill Murray's (Dr. Peter Venkman) refusal to participate quelled the project.
With the death of Harold Ramis (Dr. Egon Spengler), director and producer for the two Ghostbuster films Ivan Reitman stepped down from the directional chair. Latest rumors now indicate "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig is in talks to helm the upcoming film.
The next chapter could be played by female "parapsychologists and ghost-catchers," although these reports haven't been confirmed yet.
So, is "Ghostbusters 3" really coming out?
Yes, according to Reitman himself. He recently talked about his latest business venture (restaurant), the movie sequel, and his friend Bill Murray.
"The studio is in, and we have writers working on it as we speak. We're hoping to film at the beginning of next year," the 67-year-old Canadian told Toronto Life. "Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond "Ray" Stantz) and I meet about once a month to talk about it."
When asked about how the movie sequel will work out without Harold Ramis and Bill Murray, Reitman had an answer for that too.
"He's publicly said no, but Bill and I have done six movies together, and he never says yes until literally just before the shoot," he explained.
If Reitman is right, then "Ghostbusters 3" could arrive in the cinemas later next year or early 2017.
