Gia Allemand's Boyfriend Speaks Out About Suicide: 'It Would be Very Rough if I Didn't Have God or Jesus in My Life'
Gia Allemand's boyfriend, Ryan Anderson, has gone public with his feelings about her suicide last month and said he hopes some good will come from the tragic situation.
"Every day is a challenge," the New Orleans Pelican player told the "Times-Picayune." "It helps to be here; my family's with me. To be here with my teammates really helps a lot, but it's a roller-coaster."
Anderson was the one to discover Allemand's body after she hanged herself. He tried to resuscitate her, and she was taken to a local hospital and put on life support. Friends and family gathered around her side and made the difficult decision to take her off of life support; she passed away soon after.
"Something like that just doesn't happen for no reason. And I know that… there's… a huge plan here. A lot of people are going to be helped from this," Anderson said. "We're in the process of starting something great for her, with her family, including my family, too. We have a huge plan to do something great, great in her name that's going to help a lot of people."
Teammates told the "Times-Picayune" that faith is helping Anderson through his grief and other feelings.
"I think he's relying on his faith and he's got some really good people around him that have helped him a lot. But I think he's done a phenomenal job," Monty Williams said. "There's no manual for all this stuff; everybody's learning on the fly. I think that's helping him… you don't have to be right every day."
"I praise God every day to have Him in my life," Anderson added. "It would be very, very hard to get through these steps if I didn't have God and Jesus Christ in my life. I'm really glad coach asked me to come back when he did. I've been here for a few weeks now and just being around the guys… and having some sort of routine back, it helps a little bit."
