Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny Celebrate 24 Years of 'The X-Files' as Season 11 Begins Filming
It's been 24 years since "The X-Files" debuted on television. Stars Gillian Anderson (Agent Dana Scully) and David Duchovny (Agent Fox Mulder) celebrated the anniversary with a Twitter party among the show's fans.
Anderson got the party started by posting a throwback photo on her Twitter. She thanked and tagged her on-screen partner for being there all those years amid the mud and rain while filming their scenes.
"What's a little mud and rain between partners," Duchovny replied to her photo post, which left fans of "The X-Files" swooning. Anderson's post received over 32,000 likes as of press time and Duchovny's reply got over 10,000 likes.
"The X-Files," created by Chris Carter, made waves in the TV world from 1993 to 2002. The show became a phenomenon in pop culture and spawned two movies on the big screen.
In the advent of the popularity of the internet and social media, "The X-Files" proved to retain its strong fandom, which prompted FOX to revive the show after 14 years. "The X-Files" followers will see more of Mulder and Scully's partnership and chemistry since FOX renewed the series after a successful revival limited six-episode run in 2016.
"The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide," FOX president David Madden said. "Chris' creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can't wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files."
The follow-up is expected to air with 10 episodes with a 2018 midseason launch date but the network has yet to announce its specific time schedule.
