Giovanni Rubeo and Father React to Teacher Swornia Thomas Banning Student's Bible During Free Reading Time (VIDEO)
In another battle for the Bible in the classroom, Giovanni Rubeo, a fifth grader at Park Lakes Elementary School in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., says his teacher made him put away his Bible during a free reading time in class.
There's no question the teacher, Swornia Thomas, confronted Rubeo about the Bible. She left a voicemail for his father, Paul.
"I noticed that he has a book – a religious book – in the classroom. He's not permitted to read those books in my classroom," Thomas said in the recording.
However, the school argues the incident occurred outside of "free reading time."
In this interview with Steve Doocy of Fox News, Giovanni and Paul share their thoughts on the controversy. Their attorney, Jeremy Dys of the Liberty Institute, also takes part in the conversation.
