Girl, 4, Saves Dad's Life by Walking Quarter-Mile for Help
A four-year-old girl in Michigan is credited with saving her father's life after he hit his head and fell unconscious. Cadence Lucas managed to run a quarter of a mile in order to get help for her father and thankfully save his life.
"I got out of the truck to take the stuff [scrap metal] out and I think I dropped something underneath the tailgate. After that, I don't really remember what happened," Chris Lucas, Cadence's dad, told the Iron Mountain Daily News.
The former volunteer firefighter lay unconscious in his driveway, when Cadence, realizing that her dad needed help, went to a neighbor's house. That neighbor, however, lived a quarter of a mile away; once she told the neighbor what had happened, the neighbor leapt into action and checked on Chris while calling an ambulance.
"Most kids would have sat there until their parent woke up. She took the initiative to run out even though it was dark.
She knows the property and she told me she had seen headlights in the neighbor's yard. That's probably why she went over there," Chris noted.
Thankfully, Chris was not significantly injured and only spent one night in the hospital for observation, but he is glad that his daughter paid attention when he and her mother, who works for a local ambulance company, instructed her as to what to do should an emergency arise. Now Chris hopes that his daughter's story will encourage other parents to teach their children what to do in case of an emergency.
"We work with her on 911 and she knows our names and phone numbers. I thought it was kind of cool she remembered that," he said.
People are praising not only Cadence, but her parents for teaching their daughter what to do.
"That is just amazing that a four year old could have that kind of composure," wrote Yahoo reader Deborah. "Her parents are doing a wonderful job in raising her. Keep up the good job and she'd better have a super-duper Christmas this year."
"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). "Seems like mommy and daddy had a good start!" added Sarah.
