Girl Found in Dumpster; Neighbor Arrested: 'All She Did Was Love People,' Father Says
The body of a 9-year-old girl was discovered in a dumpster in Wooster, OH, just hours after she was reported missing. A 24-year-old neighbor has been arrested and will be arraigned this morning on a charge of aggravated murder.
Reann Murphy's small body was found inside a dumpster in the trailer park where she lived; no further details about what condition the body was in were released. Police were relatively silent about the situation but did announce that they had arrested Jarrod Metsker, Reann's neighbor, in connection with her death.
Authorities apprehended Metsker at his home, after being given a key from a relative. Metsker "would not initially respond to knocks" on his door, the Daily Record reported. He was seen with Reann at the time she disappeared, which led them directly to his door.
"There is no motive at this time," Sheriff Travis Hutchinson said at a press conference. "Any violent death of a child is much more so. We will leave no stone unturned as this investigation continues," he promised.
"She was a wonderful kid. I mean, she was playful. She'd never - all she did was love people," Richard Murphy, Reann's father, said at the press conference. "I want the worst for the guy, but it's still not going to bring back my daughter."
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family," Wayne County Prosecutor Dan Lutz said. "It's a horrific incident to take place at any time, especially during the holidays."
The community came together at a vigil last night, and friends and family paid tribute to the little girl.
"She's the best thing that ever happened to me," Richard Murphy said. "This is the hardest thing I've ever been through in my life."
"I'm sorry," Dave Seymour, a member of the community who never even met the Murphy family, said at the vigil. "We're here for them, for their support. God bless the family."
