'Girl Meets World' Premiere Date Announced, New Trailer Released (VIDEO)
"Girl Meets World," the long-anticipated follow-up series to "Boy Meets World" will premiere next month on the Disney Channel, a representative has confirmed. The series will feature several familiar faces from "Boy Meets World" and introduce those faces to a new generation.
The show will feature Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel as their familiar characters Cory and Topanga Matthews and their two children, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and Auggie (August Maturo), as well as Riley's best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). Cory's parents, Amy and Alan (Betsy Randle and William Russ) will make an appearance, as will Cory's best friend, Sean Hunter (Rider Strong).
Audiences that grew up with Cory and Topanga are thrilled to see where their lives have taken them. Cory now works as a teacher in New York City – the original "Boy Meets World" series left off with the newlyweds moving to the big city. Perhaps Cory's interest in teaching is in part due to his relationship with neighbor and teacher Mr. Feeney, who is now a series regular on "Girl Meets World."
Other stars on the series include Lee Norris as Minkus; Cloris Leachman, Jane Lynch, Jackee Harry, Willie Garson, Charlotte Rae and Herbie Hancock. The show also has a new remix of the original series' theme song, entitled "Take on the World," which is performed by Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter.
"Girl Meets World" premieres on Friday, June 27 on the Disney Channel after the original TV movie, "Zapped!" featuring Zendaya. It has a special airtime on that day but will go back to its official time on Friday, July 11 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. Viewers will have an opportunity to watch the preview episode before it airs on TV, thanks to a special release by iTunes on June 13.
Disney Channel will also host a special "Boy Meets World" marathon on Father's Day, Sunday, June 15 for those nostalgic for the original series and those preparing for the new series.
