"At the end, all it came down to was choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life," she said.

Rancic, 37, made the announcement on the show that she was in the early stages of breast cancer back in October, soon after which she underwent a double lumpectomy. However, after the surgery proved unsuccessful at removing all of the cancer, the television personality said that, though she did not come to the decision easily, she has decided to proceed with the more aggressive surgery to improve her quality of life.

"For me it was just very important to get the cancer out," she said. "With the double mastectomy I have less than a one percent chance of getting it back. With another lumpectomy, radiation and medication, I could have seen a 20 to 30 to 40 percent chance in my lifetime. For me, it just wasn't worth it."

Rancic also said that part of the decision stems from her desire to have a child. She and her husband, Bill Rancic, have documented their struggles to get pregnant on their reality television show, Giuliana and Bill.

"I would have to put off having a baby for several years," she said. "So that was something we took into account."

Well-wishers have taken to Twitter to show Rancic their support.

"Giuliana Rancic has decided to undergo a double mastectomy. We admire her for tackling cancer head-on," tweeted CoffeeWeek. "We know you WILL beat this Giuliana!"

Romina A. Magorno tweeted, "She is so strong! I truly admire ur positivity G!"
