GLAAD Media Awards 2016 News: Robert De Niro Jokes Being 'All Over' J. Law, Mariah Carey Quotes Son Morocco
In what could be one of the most spectacular moments of the 2016 GLAAD Media Awards, Robert de Niro dropped a joke on stage, while Mariah Carey opted to quote his young son, Morocco.
GLAAD, or Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards, was created to recognize various branches of the media for their portrayals of the LGBT community and this year, it decided to honor de Niro with the Excellence in Media Award.
According to E! News, Jennifer Lawrence presented the award and during her speech before giving the honor to the veteran actor, she first dropped jokes about "Bob" being "gay" and in her serious lines, praised de Niro for his contributions to the media industry.
After gaining a lot of cheers and laughs from the audience, de Niro finally went up the stage and gave Lawrence a sweet hug. The crowd roared as he accepted the trophy and everyone went laughing when he said, "Thank you, Jen. If I were a lesbian, I'd be all over you. Being a father figure has its limitations."
The two-time Oscar winner went on to praise Lawrence, calling her a "great actress" and a "generous and devoted philanthropist." While many may not know why de Niro chose Lawrence to hand him his award, the two have actually been good friends for quite some time and have spent drinks together. It turns out that de Niro thinks of Lawrence as his daughter and he has offered her many pieces of advice as a veteran in the industry.
Meanwhile, Mariah Carey was honored with the Ally Award and her trophy was handed over by "Empire" producer Lee Daniels. The producer first reminded the audience that Carey is one of the people who have been supporting the LGBT community for a long time. According to Entertainment Tonight, Daniels said, "Mariah is one of us...to the marrow bone."
Carey, in her body-hugging Mark Zunino gown, also obtained the approval of the crowd as she said, "So we've got 'L, legendary, 'G,' gorgeous, 'B,' beautiful, all of you beautiful, beautiful people, 'T,' tantalizing, and even 'Q,' for quality."
The multi-award winning singer then thanked GLAAD for the love and support they have showered upon her and finally wrapped up with the final statement: "I wish all of you love, peace, harmony, and as my 5-year-old son, Rocky, likes to say, 'Boobies and butts.'"
The 46-year-old performer will soon tie the knot with Australian billionaire James Packer and she shared with ET that her children will be part of the ceremonies. She revealed that Morocco's twin sister, Monroe, will have her own dress made for the wedding.
