Gmail App for iPhone Returns New and Improved
Google’s Gmail application for iOS finally made its return to Apple’s iTunes app store after disappearing for a week.
The company suffered an unwanted public relations blow when it first released the Gmail app Nov. 2.
The problems with the app stemmed from users encountering various bugs with its system in the notifications department.
The new 1.0.2 version made its way back to the iTunes app store this week and the problems with its notifications system seem to be fixed, according to technology website 9to5 Mac who recently tested the software.
“I just downloaded and installed the app and it put up a standard iOS notification approval request,” said the website.
For those who never deleted the original version of the app, they will need to uninstall or log out of the old version before installing the new version.
Google also seems to have improved the handling of HTML images in messages with them now being sized to fit the screen allowing the user to pinch-zoom them.
The official Gmail blog also commented on the reinstatement of the Gmail app in the iTunes store.
“In the short time the app was public we received a lot of helpful feedback and feature requests,” said the blog. “This included requests for everything from bigger features like multiple account support to customizations like improved notifications and mobile specific signatures.”
The Gmail blog also stated their desire to continuously update the Gmail app with exciting new features.
The initial problems with the app surprised users, because a similar version had already run on Android devices for quite some time.
Before the app was available for iOS, Apple customers could access their Gmail accounts the traditional way through the devices web browser.
