'God of War' PS4 News: Devs Detail the Importance of Runes in the Upcoming Game
Many of the runes in the upcoming 'God of War' PS4 game are significant in some way
In the past, the "God of War" franchise allowed players to step into the shoes of the perpetually furious Kratos as he unleashed his rage upon enemies and settings inspired by Greek mythology. But now that this familiar face is moving to a new location, he will need some help getting adjusted to his foreign surroundings.
As fans may already know, the upcoming installment of the series due out for the PlayStation 4 will feature a world based on Norse mythology. It is a world that will likely be foreign to them, and it is also mostly unknown to Kratos himself.
That is why developers are introducing elements in the form of runes that can help Kratos get acclimated to his new surroundings.
Director Cory Barlog and story lead Matt Sophos recently shared more details about "God of War's" runes during an episode of "The Lost Pages Audio Podcast."
First off, it was revealed that the runes serve to link the characters to this new game world. The runes are also going to act as reminders for Kratos and the players controlling him that things really are different now, and there are new places for them to explore.
The runes may also be found all over the place, and for the most part, they are significant elements of the environment and not just things to be ignored.
If players do not pay attention to these runes, they may then find it difficult to understand what is going on around them. They may not even have access to certain kinds of magic.
Kratos himself will find value in understanding these runes, and the good news for him is that his son Atreus will help him gain a better grasp of what they are saying.
Runes will be essential elements of the new "God of War" PS4 game, and fans will be able to start deciphering them as soon as this latest installment of the action RPG series is released early next year.
