'God of War' PS4 News: Revamped Upgrade System Will Feature a Narrative Element

Dwarves Brokk and Sydri prominently involved in new upgrade system

Plenty of things are going to be different once the "God of War" franchise lands on the PlayStation 4. The settings are different, new people are around, and Kratos has even allowed his facial hair to grow out.

Recently, it was revealed that the upgrade system has undergone some changes as well.

Speaking recently to the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, director Cory Barlog shed some more light on how character progression will be handled now that the series is on a current-gen platform, Game Rant reported.

Previously, the upgrade system was pretty straightforward and allowed the players to focus more on all the chaotic battles that the series had grown to be known for. In the next installment, however, the upgrade system has gotten a little more love from the developers.

In an effort to also give the new upgrade system a little touch of that Norse mythology, the dwarves Brokk and Syndri will now be involved in the proceedings. The dwarves will help players further strengthen both Kratos and Atreus, though it is unclear if one dwarf is responsible for certain things while the other will handle different elements.

Apart from being responsible for upgrades, there is a story inside the "God of War" PS4 game that also revolves around Brokk and Syndri. Apparently, the two dwarves have been at odds for a while now, and time has not exactly done much to heal their emotional wounds.

Kratos may be able to do something about that relationship, however, and what players choose to do could significantly impact Brokk and Syndri.

Apparently, it is not just the relationship between Kratos and Atreus that may develop inside the upcoming PS4 game, and players may hear more about Brokk and Syndri too in the future.

The new "God of War" PS4 game is expected to be released early next year.
