'God of War' PS4 News: Why Quick Time Events Will No Longer Be Prominently Featured
Addition of Kratos' son Atreus may make up for the loss of QTEs
Back when "God of War's" Kratos was still tearing his way through settings inspired by Greek mythology, he did so mostly on his own, though there were quick time events that helped guide him along the right path.
However, things are changing now that Kratos is in the world of the Norse gods, as those familiar prompts that have proved so helpful before are no longer expected to be around.
It may seem like an odd decision to get rid of elements that are so recognizable to fans of the series, though director Cory Barlog recently provided some reasons for why this may have been a necessary change.
Speaking previously to OPM UK, Barlog talked a bit about the subject of QTEs and indicated that there may be a replacement for them included in the upcoming game, PlayStation Universe reported.
Barlog indicated that the addition of Kratos' son Atreus "is a way for us to create a connection to a character that is always present." Featuring Atreus and moving away from QTE's is also expected to allow Barlog and the other developers to relate more to the players.
Notably, Barlog also hinted that he still would have wanted to feature QTEs less prominently even if Atreus was not included in the new "God of War" PlayStation 4 game.
So, with QTEs expected to be minimized or even eliminated entirely from the latest installment of the series, what exactly will players find when they get into situations that used to call for those?
An earlier report from The Verge contained some interesting details, as apparently, players are just going to have to keep playing through those special segments and attack as they would have done so anyway.
No specific release date for the "God of War" PS4 game has been announced, though fans can expect it to hit store shelves sometime early next year.
