The first intuitive thought I had after reading the manuscript of this book was the recollection of a statement made in my hearing by a famous preacher, years ago. This pastor was under a heavy barrage of criticism by his superiors for practicing child-like faith. In defense of his position before the church tribunal he said, "A man with an experience with God is never at the mercy of a man with a theory or a doctrine." I believe that. And I believe it applies to this book today.

Following close behind was a second thought from the past. Dr. Robert Mendelsohn, M.D., of Chicago made an eloquent speech titled "WHO ARE THE REAL QUACKS?" He spoke of a report of The Office of Technology of the U.S. Congress pointing out that only 10 to 20 percent of all American medical remedies have ever been subjected to the controlled study necessary to prove safety and efficacy. In other words, from 80 to 90 percent of medical remedies have never been proven. To quote Dr. Mendelsohn, "Unproven remedies is a way of saying 'Quack Medicine.'" We therefore are faced with the challenge of deciding for ourselves the plan we will follow to produce optimal health and prosperity in our own lives.

As we look at the contrast between a diet recorded in the Scriptures in Genesis 1:29 and what our scientists, including the medical profession, offer us today as the alternative, I believe a prudent person would do well to opt for the treatment which is least likely to harm him or kill him. That makes sense. It is obvious that there is a major difference between the Genesis 1:29 diet and the typical American diet, including what trained nutritionists offer as a choice.

To quote a third person who has influenced my thinking and beliefs, "A medical profession which doesn't know who God is or, worse yet, denies that God exists, is certainly unable to define what health is - thus would be likely to center itself upon disease management rather than health attainment." The idea that nutrition doesn't matter to U.S. physicians has its basis in fact. The average doctor in his four years of medical school receives about 2.5 hours of study in nutrition. Controlled illness through drugs versus health and wellness through proper diet has, therefore, been the tragic result of this.

I believe and want you to believe that God through nature is the one who heals, cures, mitigates, relieves and treats a symptom or disease. I believe and want you to believe that God gave Adam and Eve specific directions for what to eat for optimal health. Count on it: the formula is immortal.

A famous doctor who espoused this philosophy was Hippocrates (460 - 377 B.C.). His statement, "Food is your best medicine and the best food is the best medicine" is timeless, in a addition to being famous. His theory was if a medical procedure works, use it again and again - not needing to know why or how it works.

I totally agree with the Malkmus' that nutrients are agents of healing and that healing comes from inside us - the DNA working with intelligence and precision, with relentless energy day and night, always in our best interest.

Let me make a summary statement. My own experience in raising experimental animals in the laboratory, first at Ohio State University's Medical School Nutrition Research laboratory, gave me overwhelming evidence to believe like Hippocrates. To make an animal ill, just remove any single nutrient from his rations. Continue the denial of the required life-force and the animal dies. Before his crisis illness, however, he could be fed the denied nutrient and in a few days look like the healthy mice who had never been ill. Yes, there is such a thing as a "Mr. Food Doctor." And the Malkmus' have proven this same principle works for humans too.

Lastly, Dr. Charles Mayo, of the famous Mayo Brothers in Rochester, Minnesota (1900), made this statement for public consumption: "We are all afraid of germs... but what we should be afraid of is lowered resistance which comes from within... normal resistance to disease is directly dependent upon adequate food... It never comes out of pill boxes... adequate food is the cradle of normal resistance, the playground of normal immunity, the workshop of good health and the laboratory of long life."
