'Godzilla 2' Release Date, Casting News: Kyle Chandler Cast as Millie Bobby Brown's Father
"Bloodline" star Kyle Chandler is confirmed to have joined the cast of the upcoming movie "Godzilla: King of the Monsters."
Chandler will reportedly be playing a scientist and the father of "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown's character in the "Godzilla" sequel produced by Legendary and distributed by Warner Bros.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Chandler won an Emmy and received multiple nominations for his role as Coach Eric Taylor on "Friday Night Lights." The actor currently stars on the Netflix series "Bloodline" for which he has also received Emmy nominations for his portrayal of John Rayburn. He also recently appeared in the movie "Manchester by the Sea" with co-star Casey Affleck.
Chandler was reportedly fielding several offers to act in feature films when he chose to be a part of the "Godzilla" movie sequel. For his participation in the upcoming monster flick, sources reveal that he managed to secure a seven-figure deal.
"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is the follow-up to the 2014 movie "Godzilla," which starred notable actors such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen and Ken Watanabe. Among the original cast members, only Watanabe is reportedly likely to return for the next "Godzilla" movie.
The sequel will be directed by Michael Dougherty, known for his work in "Krampus." He also co-wrote the film's script with Zach Shields. According to Omega Underground, filming is scheduled to commence on June 19 in Atlanta, Georgia. There are also reports that the film will also be shooting in China.
The forthcoming sequel is only one of several movies in Legendary's lineup of blockbuster monster movies featuring iconic creatures such as Godzilla and King Kong. After the 2014 release of "Godzilla," "Kong: Skull Island" is scheduled to hit theaters next on March 10. This will be followed by "Godzilla: King of Monsters" in 2019. Fans will then get to watch "Godzilla vs. Kong" on May 29, 2020.
"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is slated for release on March 22, 2019.
