Goje Defends Restructuring of Emirates Councils
Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Danjuma Goje has said his administration intends to restructure the existing emirates and chiefdoms in the state in line with other northern states and not to victimise political opponents.
The governor, while receiving the report of the Emirate Council Review Committee, said the exercise was devoid of any sentiment.
He pointed out that government was only desperate to sanitise the traditional institution with a view to restoring its poise and past glory.

"At the end of the exercise, it is hoped that the institution of traditional rulership in Gombe State will come out stronger, more respected and in line with the aspiration of our people. This is the ultimate goal we want to achieve," said the governor.
He said government would take decision that would promote peace, unity, development and respect for the cultural heritage of the state.
Goje stated that a white paper committee would be set up that will work on the report and made appropriate recommendations.
He thanked the committee for obtaining memoranda from citizens and touring four states before submitting its report.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Mohammed Wabili said the report was a product of collective, critical and dispassionate study of historical facts, financial implications, legal opinion and a survey of public view.
He disclosed that the committee visited Bauchi, Adamawa, Kano and Kaduna States to update the knowledge of members for them to come up with recommendations that could stand the test of time.
