Golden State Warriors NBA Rumors: Jose Calderon Will Reportedly Sign With the Warriors
As expected, Jose Calderon and the Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a buyout. The Spaniard is now a free agent and he will be eligible for the playoffs if he signs with another team by March 1. Well, Calderon has already chosen his next destination, and according to league sources, he will remain in California and sign with the Golden State Warriors.
Last Saturday, the Warriors released Brianté Weber to open a spot on their roster, and in an interview with CSN Bay Area, Warriors general manager Bob Myers confirmed the team was going to make a move to strengthen their lineup for the playoffs.
"You find that in the playoffs, experience matters. I don't want to diminish (Weber's) contribution and say he's not capable. He could help a team. But I think sometimes you go with experience when going into the playoffs," Myers told CSN Bay Area.
Calderon definitely has a lot of experience. The 35-year-old point guard has been playing in the league since 2005 and he should fit in well with the Warriors. He isn't much of a defender, but his passing and offense skills should more than make up for his weaknesses.
With Stephen Curry and Shaun Livingston in the roster, Calderon probably won't be playing much. He's going to be an insurance policy in case one of them gets sidelined due to an injury. He should fit in well with the Warriors, although he isn't much of a defender.
Aside from Calderon, the Warriors were reportedly interested in Brandon Jennings as well. Chris Haynes of ESPN said some Warriors staff members preferred him over Calderon, but the process was already too far along with Calderon.
Meanwhile, former Warriors center Andrew Bogut can actually re-sign with the team, but sources say he has narrowed his choices to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the San Antonio Spurs, the Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics.
