Golden State Warriors News 2015: Warriors to Play Against Old Coach and the New Orleans Pelicans

As the NBA defending champions, a lot of attention will be given to the Golden State Warriors as they try to make a repeat performance of last year.

With the NBA releasing the official schedule on Wednesday, the Warriors are given a tough task in their first game as they host the up-and-coming New Orleans Pelicans at the Oracle Arena.

Last year, the two teams faced-off in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs and the Warriors swept the series 4-0. Now, with the Pelicans finally gaining playoff experience and another year under Anthony Davis' belt, they are expected to be even more effective. Furthermore, the Pelicans have a new head coach in Alvin Gentry who is very familiar with the system that the Warriors play as he was an assistant coach for Warriors coach Steve Kerr in their championship run.

The teams will meet on Oct. 27, with two other games on tap as the Atlanta Hawks play the Detroit Pistons, and the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers meet. Looking further down the Warriors' schedule, Christmas Day will be another marquee matchup as they will play the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This is a rematch of last year's NBA Finals which saw the Warriors win 4-2 despite an incredible performance from LeBron James to lift the injury-riddled Cavaliers.

As for the Warriors, Andre Iguodala emerged as an important piece to their championship puzzle as he came up big for Golden State and eventually won the series' MVP honors.

Both teams are favored to represent their respective conferences in the coming season and the Christmas Day clash could easily be an appetizer for another incredible battle between the two rivals.

Currently, the Warriors' biggest stars in Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes are in Team USA's 34-man roster to represent the country in the 2016 Olympics.
