'Golf Story' News: On the RPG that Topped eShop Charts and Why Gamers Should Play It
Made and published by indie game developer Sidebar Games, "Golf Story" has an under the radar release last Sept. 28. However, the reception of the gaming community was anything but stealthy as "Golf Story" rocketed to the top of eShop charts a week after it was released.
Fans are now curious as to what makes it different from other games released on the Nintendo Switch, and fortunately, critics had much to say about the game title.
"Golf Story," a game developed by two people, had a remarkably successful launch week as it placed first on U.S. eShop charts and second on the U.K eShop chart. "Golf Story" won over "Pokken Tournament DX" and "NBA 2K18" in the U.S. while also trampling "FIFA 18" and Sonic Mania" in the U.K.
This produced a respectable number of sales for Sidebar Games, and the gaming community has worked hard to spread the word that the sports role-playing game is one that fans should definitely experience on the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo Wire pointed out that Sidebar Games did something right that set "Golf Story" apart from other titles. Considering that there are not many sports role-playing video games and that it is an odd premise, to begin with, Sidebar Games managed to establish the narrative of "Golf Story" better than some of the RPG titles in the market. The gameplay is also clean and enjoyable.
Meanwhile, Kotaku lauded "Golf Story" for its ability to keep gamers interested in another level. The campaign was not exhausting in any way, which made it an enjoyable and successful role-playing video game. Furthermore, Sidebar Games hit the perfect balance between challenge and course length, which would motivate any gamer to try and sink one more hole, regardless of whether or not they are sports fans.
"Golf Story" is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
