Google Announces the Release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Sprint
Google has made if official. After rumors began circling just last week, Google has announced that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be offered by Sprint in the near future just before this year’s consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.
This news comes less than a week after an ad advertising a Sprint version of the popular handset leaked to the internet spilling the beans on the carrier’s plans to acquire this device that is currently a Verizon exclusive.
Google added that the Sprint Galaxy Nexus will come with Google Wallet Support will be a 4G LTE device on the carrier as well. Information on pricing and availability is not yet available.
Verizon released the Galaxy Nexus as an exclusive to the carrier early last month, just before Christmas. The smartphone was originally unveiled in Nov. by Google and Samsung as the flagship device for the newest Android platform, Ice Cream Sandwich.
Tech outlets such as The Verge have called the Galaxy Nexus the greatest Android smartphone ever made. It features some impressive specs including a 4.65-inch high-definition Super AMOLED display with 1280x720 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio giving movie watching a true theater feel on the handset.
It also includes NFC (near field communications) technology allowing data, purchases, and content to be transferred to another device simply by touching it. It features a curved design making it unique in the smartphone market.
Sprint recently acquired the iPhone 4S that was previously an AT&T exclusive until 2011 when Verizon began to carry the iPhone 4. Sprint joined the race once the 4S launch back in October.
With the addition of the Galaxy Nexus to its line-up the carrier should enjoy a significant boost in sales and a general spark in interest from consumers since it will have the two hottest smartphones on the planet available.
