Google Nexus 7 Tablet Price to Drop to $99?
Google could be releasing a $99 Nexus tablet in the near future, according to a recent report.
NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shym stated that the device will enter production in December this week.
This $99 version of the wildy popular tablet was first mentioned in DigiTimes. However, Asus, the company that is expected to manufacture the device, has denied those claims, so this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.
A 32GB Google Nexus 7 also could be as released early as Oct. 24, according to other reports.
The device was recently discovered in a listing at a Carphone Warehouse store in the U.K. Shortly after it was found, a few Droid Life readers reported that they found the tablet in the retailer's purchasing system.
The device was priced at $259.92 and the reader also reported that his reseller is expecting shipments of the 32GB Nexus 7 sometime around Oct. 24 and called it a "special model."
Google could be releasing this version in order to better compete with the new Amazon Kindle Fire HD and the next-generation Nook tablet.
A Galaxy Nexus 2 smartphone was also discovered in Carphone Warehouse's inventory with this new Nexus 7 model.
Neither of these devices have been confirmed by Google.
However, Samsung is expected to unveil a new, smaller smartphone in the current weeks, as the Korean electronics giant sent out an invite for a media event set to take place in Berlin, Germany.
Samsung and Google teamed up around the same time last year to unveil the original Galaxy Nexus smartphone, so a new model is overdue.
Various tech sites are also predicting that Samsung is going to unveil a smaller version of the Galaxy S3 in order to better compete with the new iPhone 5. But that still has not been confirmed.
