Google Nexus Prime Release Date: Launch Event Confirmed for Oct. 19
Samsung’s “Mobile Unpacked” event, where the company is expected to unveil its new Nexus Prime smartphone, will take place on Oct. 19, according to 9to5 Google.
The tech site received an invitation from Samsung that confirmed that the event would be taking place on that date in S221 Hong Kong Convention & Exhibit Centre at 1 Expo Drive, Wanchai, Hong Kong.
The company’s new Ice Cream Sandwich Android software is expected to debut at the event along with the introduction of the highly anticipated Nexus Prime smartphone.
No official information has been confirmed concerning what the company will actually unveil, but those the new software and the smartphone are the likely candidates.
“Mobile Unpacked” was originally supposed to take place last week during CTIA’s Wireless Power Summit 2011 in San Diego.
But after the death of Steve Jobs, Samsung pushed the event back in order to pay its respects to the late tech innovator.
Doors will open for the event at 9:30 a.m. HKT (9:30 p.m. EDT Oct. 18), and it is expected to begin at 10:00 a.m. Samsung fans and those anticipating the new software and devices can watch the event live at youtube.com/android.
Google’s Nexus Prime is expected to be the next great device in Samsung-brand smartphones.
Ice Cream Sandwich is Android’s latest offering in terms of software.
The new operating system is a combination of the best elements of Android’s Gingerbread and Honeycomb systems. It is expected to be compatible with both smartphones and tablets.
The Nexus Prime is rumored to be the first Android smartphone to run on Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
The Nexus Prime is fairly similar in specs to the iPhone 4S, equipped with an 8-megapixel camera capable of filming in 1080p HD.
