Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Specs: Flagships Show Camera Power in Impressive Sample Photos

The Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2  XL will keep one of the biggest things that fans loved about the original, which is the quality camera.

Google Camera product manager Isaac Reynolds has shared a batch of unedited photos taken with the snapper on the standard version of the flagship and as users expected, it did not disappoint.

Whether it is under low light conditions or capturing moving objects or simply shooting scenic landscapes, the Google Pixel 2 will produce an excellent image. The same goes for its new portrait mode.

This feat is made extra impressive seeing that it only has one sensor on the back as opposed to a dual camera setup, which is slowly becoming the latest norm for flagships.

The original Google Pixel handsets were acclaimed for their imaging capabilities and with the rise of dual cameras, the company had to step up their game.

Google proved with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL that upgrading the cameras is not about doubling the quantity. The tech firm instead beefed things up with a dual-pixel sensor, which splits each pixel into two for that extra detail.

With this technology, the flagships will offer faster autofocus while also achieving that bokeh effect on portraits without the need for a second camera.

While Google passed on the dual snapper system, the company did give in to one mobile trend, which is the removal of the 3.5-mm audio headphone jack.

When Google introduced the original Pixel duo, the company mocked Apple for taking this integral component out of the iPhone 7. A year later, it does the same with the Google Pixel 2.

However, Google Pixel community manager Orrin explained the reason behind the company's decision:

The Pixel 2 still comes with a headphone jack but we have moved to USB-C, a standard that is becoming commonplace in the best phones and laptops of today. Moving to the USB-C audio port with Pixel 2 allows us to provide a better audio and digital experience, as we move towards a bezel-less future.

We realize that some of you might be looking for USB-C headphones, and we want to provide some guidance around headphone compatibility with Pixel 2 devices. The main thing to keep in mind is that Pixel 2 devices are compatible with USB-C headphones that support digital audio.

The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XLwill be released on Oct. 17.
