Google Android 7.1.2 Released to Users Outside Beta Program; Pixel C, Nexus Player First to Receive Update

Google has started rolling out the stable version of Android 7.1.2 to the Pixel C and Nexus Player. Although Google has not confirmed it yet, some users have reported receiving the update prompt on their devices.

It can be recalled that Google released the first beta version of the update in January. This was followed by the release of the second beta in March. Since then, the tech company has not given any word as to when it will roll out the more stable version of the new update to selected devices.

However, recent reports from users claim that Google has already rolled out Android 7.1.2 to their devices. Now that the update is already being pushed to users outside the beta program, it looks like Google has already started the automatic rollout without giving users a heads-up.

Android 7.1.2 is a minor update that comes with only a few new features. The fingerprint scanner gesture, for instance, which was previously only available to Pixel devices, is now available to Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. A new Pixel Launcher is also available for the Pixel C tablet, allowing users to choose from a wide range of live wallpapers.

Furthermore, the update comes with a new navigation bar and improved multitasking screen, as well as a new battery usage list.

Google has yet to update its Factory Image and Full OTA pages on its website and based on reports, it looks like only the Nexus Player and Pixel C have received the new update. However, it is expected to come to other devices soon.

Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 users should note that their devices are not entitled to the new update, since both devices have previously passed the two-year software support mark. Devices that have not yet received the new Android 7.1.2 update are expected to receive it in the coming weeks.
