Google To Unveil Two Nexus Devices on September 29
Earlier reports about Google unveiling not just one, but two Nexus devices this year, may turn out to be true. According to a report in CNET, sources who are privy to information about Google are saying that the company is set to announce the new devices during a special event on September 29 to be held in San Francisco. One of the Nexus devices will be manufactured in partnership with LG, while the other one will be with Huawei.
Both devices, being Nexus devices, will be showcasing the newest iteration of the Android OS, the yet to be released Android Marshmallow. For Google, Nexus devices are considered their "flagship" devices when it comes to having a "pure" Android experience. Unlike devices that release with proprietary versions of Android, these devices are offered without additions or tweaks that manufacturers usually make. More importantly, Google always prioritizes the release of any software updates for Nexus devices, ahead of other manufacturers.
A spokeswoman from Google however did not make any official comment about the reported September 29 unveiling.
This marks Huawei's first collaboration with Google, which can be beneficial to both companies. Huawei is not as popular in the US and other Western markets, so this move can mean better credibility for Huawei as a manufacturer of high-end smartphones. Google, on the other hand, will be able to break into the huge Chinese market where Huawei is known if this partnership pans out.
LG is no stranger to Google however. It is the Korean company's third time to work on a Nexus phone, having built the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5.
LG is reportedly working on a 5.2-inch Nexus device which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and a 2,700 mAh battery.
Huawei, on the other hand, is said to be working on a Nexus device that is bigger, one with a 5.7-inch screen. Under the hood, it will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. Its battery will be bigger at 3,500 mAh.
