Google's Ice Cream Sandwich Release Slated for October

Google's Ice Cream Sandwich, a software follow-up for the Android platform, is rumored to be released as early as October this year, according to an article by Boy Genius Report . But you may want to consider waiting a couple of months before you purchase a new smartphone.

It is hard to miss out on all the fun Android phones are currently offering, but if the Ice Cream Sandwich were to be released tomorrow, your Android phone would technically be outdated.

Google's newest mobile will be launched for both smartphones and tablets and will be designed to unify the Android Gingerbread available in smartphones and the Android Honeycomb powered tablets in order to make available several functions such as the multitasking UI and the launcher all throughout the platform.

According to Intomobile, it will also eliminate the need for physical buttons on devices, something Honeycomb already provides, allowing a more smooth experience in the touch display.

Google may be rushing the release of the Ice Cream Sandwich in order to fight off Apple's iPhone 5, which is believed to be released around the same period and which many consumers are waiting for.

Apple on the other hand will try to dominate the smartphone market with not only the release of a new device but also a new mobile operating system called iOS 5.
