Gordon Ramsay, Will Ferrell Injured in Celebrity Soccer Match (VIDEO)
Will Ferrell and Gordon Ramsay were both injured in a celebrity soccer match over the weekend. Ramsay was actually taken from the field on a stretcher after colliding with a player from the opposing team.
Ferrell and Ramsay both played for the English team against the Rest of the World as part of a charity Soccer Aid match yesterday. Ramsay was slammed into by opponent and former England professional player Teddy Sheringham, and was taken from the field on a stretcher. He was given oxygen as he was carried away.
Ramsay was taken to the hospital but quickly released. "Thx [thanks] 4 all the messages," he tweeted. "Out of hospital after receiving amazing care from medics at ground & hospital. Bit sore but fine."
Ferrell suffered a leg injury during the second half of the match and was escorted from the field. Other celebrities playing included Gerard Butler, Mike Myers, Ed Norton and Woody Harrelson.
Their team still managed to secure the victory with a score of 3-1. All proceeds from the match, which was organized by pop singer Robbie Williams, benefited UNICEF and totaled over $7 million.
Ramsay had previously tried out for the Scottish soccer team Rangers before injuring his knee. He then focused on his cooking and is now one of the most famous celebrity chefs, earning a Michelin star, opening numerous restaurants, and being the host of two reality cooking shows: "Hell's Kitchen" and "MasterChef."
