Gospel music's premier talent search features contestants anywhere from 15-60 years old performing a variety of gospel music styles, including soul, traditional, rock, pop, country, hip-hop, and blues, in competition for a premier recording contract
Nearly 500 spiritual star hopefuls have auditioned so far in the Gospel Dream 2005 competition, with the latest set of auditions having begun yesterday in New Orleans.
Dubbed gospel musics premier talent search, Gospel Dream 2005 features contestants anywhere from 15-60 years old performing a variety of gospel music styles, including soul, traditional, rock, pop, country, hip-hop, and blues, in competition for a premier recording contract.
For those on the fence about auditioning, Gospel Music Channel Vice President of Production and Programming, Doug DePriest encourages all who are interested to participate.
What we saw in Atlanta was that a lot of people did extremely well who wouldnt have even come out if they didnt have a friend say Ill do this if youll do it with me, explains DePriest. If theres a way to encourage people who are on the fence to get out of the choir and out of the shower stall, the two days in Atlanta convinced me that anyone who really enjoys singing should give it a shot.
DePriest adds that all evaluations made by the competitions judges -which include R&B singer/songwriter Kelly Price, freelance writer/music critic Andy Argyrakis, and Max Siegel, president of Zomba Gospel and senior VP of the Zomba Label Group- are constructive.
We dont have a Simon Cowell on Gospel Dream, says DePriest. We wont be making entertainment at anyones expense.
Three regional winners will be chosen from each audition to compete in the nationally-televised competition this fall, which will air on the Gospel Music Channel.
