'Gotham' Episode 19 Spoilers: Theo Galavan Is Returning As Azrael

'Gotham' is introducing a new Big Bad to the show in its upcoming episode titled "Azrael" which airs on Monday, April 25. According to a report in International Business Times, the next episode will see the evil Dr. Strange (BD Wong) giving a new lease on life for the once-dead Theo Galavan (James Frain) and sending him to go after James Gordon (Ben McKenzie).

Galavan and Gordon have a history together, with Gordon having killed Galavan earlier. Dr. Strange apparently got a hold of Galavan's body and used the freezing solution of Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow) to bring him back to life.

As Gordon attempts to deal with Galavan the same way he did the last time, he also finds out that his enemy is no longer the same person he fought with earlier in the season. The episode's promotional video shows shots of Galavan wearing Azrael armor and calling himself Azrael. Dr. Strange also calls him the "redeemed one." He is also shown fighting off some police men with a sword.

Azrael in the DC Comics universe is a character that Batman will encounter in the future. According to a report in Bustle, it is a title and not a name, and it refers to the "flaming sword-wielding champion" of the Sacred Order of the St. Dumas, which is Galavan's religion. From the scenes in the video, Galavan has the supernatural strength that is common in the Azrael as well as the issues of insanity that is said to hound anyone who is designated an Azrael.

In the video, Gordon tells Bruce when the latter tells him to kill Galavan, which he has done before: "Crossing that line, will make you more like the evil you are trying to fight."

The next episode will also bring to light another Gotham villain, Nygma. Gordon's time will also be divided between dealing with Galavan and Nygma, who is the newest resident in the Arkham asylum. Nygma's curiosity about Dr. Strange's activities is increasing, sending him to go off into his own little investigation.
