'Gotham' News, Update: Penguin To Get A Taste of His Own Medicine
The highly-anticipated sophomore season of Fox's hit crime-fighting drama TV series "Gotham" is now ready to kick off with its premiere on Monday, September 21. For those who are wondering about the state the titular city is in when the new season opens, here's what one of the cast members has to say.
Speaking with Comic Book Resources (via Screen Rant), Robin Lord Taylor reveals that Oswald Cobblepot is currently the reigning King of Gotham; a position he saw fit for him after he deposed of the past existing mob leaders Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni and Fish Mooney.
However, the Penguin might have to be content while he's on top as this situation won't last long for him. Of course, followers of the show may already know that Season 2 will see the influx of new supervillains which will once again rock the city to its very core. In fact, two of such big baddies will be standing behind the curtains, tugging along the strings as Det. Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) beloved city spirals into chaos.
"I can't really get into specifics, but what I can say is – and it's not just Oswald – Theo [James Frain] and Tabitha [Jessica Lucas] disrupt the entire power structure in Gotham. They make a big move in Season 2 that throws everyone off," Taylor told CBR (via SR).
The actor added his insights on the matter by saying that the situation comes as a bit reminiscent to what he'd done in the first season: uproot the criminal system so that he can install himself on top.
"It's almost like Oswald is getting a taste of his own medicine," he said.
The 37-year-old actor further spoke about the development of his character to which he hopes to wield "a helicopter umbrella" in the future.
Giving depth on his choice of weapon for his beloved alter-ego, he told CBR that having the said weapon is "so fantastic and so amazing and something necessarily for him because of his impediment."
But in that note, it remains to be seen as to what path will the show take. Will it derive from the classic source material or tap on Tim Burton's take of the evil Gotham mayor?
Stay tuned for more updates.
