He stated, according to Mirror UK, "It's less stand-alone episodically compared to the last season. There are bigger story arcs of four or five episodes so you'll get interaction with a lot of the characters now. It feels cinematic, it's got a confident gait now. You won't be disappointed — we're very, very, proud of it."

The first season of the series received mixed reviews, garnering several criticisms on how the stories were laid out. The executive producer of "Gotham," Bruno Heller, addressed the criticism, promising a better second season to fans. He explained that they told too many stories, which brought a lack of focus to the season. With that, he hopes to address the mistake and make sure that second season has more focus.

However, fans are still worried whether the series will be able to reconcile its issues. Since the upcoming season is themed "Rise of the Villains," it can be expected that the series will introduce more antagonists to the story. With the arrival of new characters, the focus of the season could be put in question.

Fans will have to wait until the series returns this Jan. 11 to find out just how the season will progress.
