Gotye Glee Cover Remarks: Artist Now Calls Cover 'Very Clever' (VIDEO)
Recent reports suggested that Gotye had criticized the "Glee" remake of his hit song "Somebody That I Used to Know." Later however, the singer insisted that his words had been taken out of context.
The initial reports that quote Gotye, born Wally de Backer, originated from an interview that the singer did with a local Australian magazine.
"They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop "Glee" style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense," he told the Sunday Mail talking about the "Glee" cover of his song, "like it's playing to you from a cardboard box."

The singer was also quoted saying that the sound came off as "dinky" and "wrong." Gotye however later confirmed on a radio interview in Los Angeles with 98.7 that he did not at all mean to criticize the "Glee" cover. The singer explained that "the nature of using reverb and space in a recording can change your perception of how a sound appeals to you."
The Australian singer went on to suggest that his previous comments were about "this xylophone hook in my song -- it's kind of dinky not just in the cover version but the original song."
Gotye also added that he had actually esteemed the "Glee" cover, which he thought had been very clever in its own way.
"I thought it was really clever to transpose the song to two guys ... It was a great idea," Gotye remarked.
"Somebody That I Used to Know" topped Billboard 100 charts after the "Glee" episode which covered the song aired.
Many were critical of the artist after he had made comments against "Glee" despite the fact that the show had launched his success.
"I just think it's super funny that he's saying this now, after the cover helped his song reach #1 on the chart. It's not a very classy move on his part, considering that every cover is really a form of flattery to his work," JoleneJ said on the MTV blog.
