Gracia Burnham Gives Thanks for Prayers
Rescued missionary takes Thanksgiving holiday to express her appreciation for prayers she received for her and her late husband during their ordeal with Islamic terrorists in the Philippines.
A Muslim rebel group held Gracia Burnham and her husband Martin Burnham captive for more than a year before the Burnhams were rescued. Mr. Burnham was killed during a firefight between U.S. aided Filipino forces and Muslim forces.
Burnham commented that she and her husband knew of all the prayers they had received during their times of trial.
"I even remember in that last gun battle ... and I just looked over at Martin, and I said, 'People are praying for us.' And he said, 'I know it.'"
Gracia says she is at peace knowing that Martin is in heaven. "It didn't end at all the way I would want it to end, but I wouldn't wish him back here," she says. "He's so much better there."
Although she is still hobbled somewhat by the wounds she suffered during her rescue, Burnham notes that things are going incredibly well now for her and their three children in Kansas.
