Graduation Cat Cake: Baker's Hilarious Mistake Goes Viral (VIDEO)
A graduation cat cake was the result of a baker's hilarious mistake and went viral on the internet. Laura Grambel graduated from Indiana University, but instead of pasting a cap on her face cake, a bakery put a cat, leading to many laughs for her family and friends.
The graduation cat cake came about because Grambel's mother decided to have a small celebration for her daughter's accomplishment. Although Grambel initially didn't want to celebrate her graduation— she didn't walk across the stage at Indiana University or have a party because she planned to go to graduate school in the fall— her mother saw fit to do something, especially in light of the other holidays.
"I just graduated college, it was my sister's birthday and it was Father's Day," Gambrel told "Good Mornina America." "My grandparents were visiting from out of town, and we thought we'd knock out three holidays at once."
Gambrel's mother Carol asked a bakery to make a face cake with a graduation cap, but the bakers must have heard "try to draw a cat on the head." She also asked for the school's colors, red and white.
"I can only image them doing it and thinking I was going to vet school or something," Gambrel said. "She got it and she asked them to draw a little cap on. But when she went to pick it up later, she saw that there was a cat on it, and started laughing hysterically and said, 'No, that's not what I meant at all.'"
The 59-year-old mother went to pick up the cake and found the small cat atop her daughter's head hilarious. The bakers found it funny as well when they realized the mistake.
Gambrel posted a picture of the graduation cat cake on Reddit as user bluesberry and it went viral, with 29,000 upvotes in only hours.
"We were all just cracking up," Carol Gambrel said. "Who would have thought she'd get her 15 minutes with a cat cake?"
