Gran Turismo 6 Software Update Now Available, Brings Car Search Feature and More

A Gran Turismo 6 software update is now available for the racing game.

The update adds multi-monitor compatibility, a car search feature and much more. The developer announced the update through the PlayStation Blog earlier this week.

Players will also now be able to access multi-monitor settings by entering the game's display options. The car search feature helps players find vehicles using specific parameters and open lobby changes such as Time Drift, Drift Trial and Free Run.

Other improvements with the update include general adjustments such as brake balance and traction control. It should download automatically when it is loaded online.

Gran Turismo 6 was released in December of last year. The game received mostly positive reviews after its release. It is only available for the PlayStation 3 console and was developed by Polyphony digital.

As of Sept. 2012, the "Gran Turismo" franchise has sold more than 68 million copies worldwide.

The original "Gran Turismo" burst on the scene in 1997 and was an exclusive PlayStation title. In a little over 10 years, Sony shipped over 10 million copies of the game.

The original game was praised by critics including IGN, who gave "Gran Turismo" a 9.5 out of 10.

"Gran Turismo" was successful, lead to four sequels: "Gran Turismo 2" (1999), "Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec" (2001 PS2), "Gran Turismo 4" (2005 PS2), and "Gran Turismo 5" (2010 PS3).

All of these games have been tremendously successful for Sony, so the probability of another sequel launching is quite high as the company is most likely already working on a version for PS4. The final 5 games were developed by Polyphony Digital. There is no word yet on a sequel to Gran Turismo 6.
