'Gran Turismo Sport' Gameplay Features 85% Offline Content

"Gran Turismo Sport" has already been released, but fans are discovering that not much can be done in the game in offline mode.

According to Ars Technica, if a player is not connected to the internet, virtually the only thing available to play is the Arcade mode. This mode includes time and drift trials, split-screen two-player battles, one-off races against the computer, and the limited VR mode. What is even more disappointing is that if the game's servers are down, then everyone will be offline.

This revelation comes after it was revealed in August that 85 percent of the game's content is offline. According to OnlySP, developer Polyphony Digital said that there is more single-player content than multiplayer content.

"It might look focused on online at first glance, but in actuality the online portion of the game is probably about 15 percent," director Kazunori Yamauchi said at a press conference at the PlayStation Experience South East Asia 2017 in Malaysia. "The rest of the 85 percent is actually an offline experience."

However, in a blog post published in September, Sony revealed that a stable internet connection is needed to enjoy most of the game.

"In order to ensure fair racing for all, 'GT Sport' will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality," the post read. "This connectivity requirement is to ensure that progress, car availability, and driver ratings are properly maintained at all times."

"Gran Turismo Sport" was released on Oct. 17. A limited edition "Gran Turismo Sport" PlayStation 4 console was released in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australasia a day later.

As previously reported, the 1 TB limited edition console comes with $250,000 worth of in-game credits, as well as a Day 1 edition of the game. Fans who purchase the console also get a chrome racing helmet, 60 PlayStation 4 avatars, and livery stickers packs.

The console only comes with one silver DualShock 4 wireless controller, which means fans who require two will have to buy another one separately. Fortunately, in order to match with the "Gran Turismo Sport" console, a standalone limited edition DualShock 4 controller is also available.
