'Grand Ages: Medieval' Coming to PS4 on Sept. 25
"Grand Ages: Medieval" is coming the Sony PlayStation 4 console on September 25. The real-time strategy game, developed by Gaming Minds and published by Kalypso Games, is said to be a follow-up to its 2009 "Grand Ages: Rome" game, also a strategy game set during the final years of the Roman Republic.
The game will first arrive in Europe on Sept. 25, then North America on Sept.29 for the PlayStation 4 and PC. "Grand Ages: Medieval," according to an IGN report, is a strategy game set in a "massive world" consisting of 20 million square kilometers for its single player campaign.
The game's creative director Daniel Dumont described the game as "a real-time, grand scale strategy game that takes place in the High Middle Ages," in the PlayStation Blog. "The game begins in the year 1050 A.D. as you assume the role of a mayor governing a small European settlement. Your goal is to lead your people through the decades by expanding your trade routes and nation's influence; and eventually, begin conquering all of Europe."
Gameplay is essentially empire-building, where players need to plan and strategize, make use of all resources on hand to do so. There may also be a need to "utilize politics, trade, warfare and research advancing technologies" in order to exercise control over the 20 million square kilometer playing area.
Players can play the single-player campaign or the eight-player campaign that will enable them to play with friends and also allows players to "set commands and protocols" that lets players "take breaks" without leaving the game.
The game's official description as reported in PlayStation Lifestyle, listed the following tasks that players need to do in the game:
- Raise an army and fight opponents with knights, archers and cavalry
- Produce and trade 20 different goods to feed citizens and soldiers
- Research and utilize 50 technological advancements of the Middle Ages
- Face devastating natural disasters
