Great expectations for the upcoming week of prayer
The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) announced that next week would be the week of prayer for North American Missions, and also of week to promote the 2004 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (AAEO).
The offering, named in honor of WMU’s founder, Annie Armstrong in 1936 was first initiated by WMU in 1895 to support Southern Baptist Church Missionaries in the United States. Since then, nearly one billion dollars have been given. This year, the goal has been set for $54 million, although the offering has met the national goal only twice in the past 20 years.
Greg Farah, a Church Planting Missionary in New York City commented, “I know of at least 21.5 million reasons to give to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions! That's the number of people we are praying will find a church home in our community. Without funding through the Annie Armstrong offering, we would never have started a church in the heart of New York City!”

The AAEO supplies more than 44 percent of the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) budget and one hundred percent of the offering supports 5,176 missionaries and their ministries.
President of the NAMB, Robert E. (Bob) Reccord commented, “With an estimated 228 million lost people in the United States and Canada – seven out of 10 people – there is a growing spiritual hunger around us. Our charge is to help Southern Baptists share the Gospel with every person in North America.”
Last year, Southern Baptists set another record in giving to the AAEO for North American Missions. A total of $49,650,279 was given.
